Set during the Korean War, this film has a standard boot camp training narrative, in the same vein of "From Here to Eternity" (also 1953); there is even a love triangle with Ryan and fellow sergeant Laverne Holt. For an air of realism, the filmmakers used actual soldiers in the training drill sequences but the mawkish sentimentality of the script undermines any serious theatrical intentions in favour of a predictable "life lessons" melodrama. 521 8 $a Rating: Not rated. 534 $p First released: $c United States : Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, 1953. 610 10 $a United States. $b Army $v Drama. 650 0 $a Basic training (Military education) $v Drama. 650 0 $a Korean War, 1950-1953 $v Drama. 655 7 $a Military films. $2 lcgft $0 http://id.loc.gov/authorities/genreForms/gf2011026395 655 7 $a War films. $2 lcgft $0 http://id.loc.gov/authorities/genreForms/gf2011026729 655 7 $a Fiction films. $2 lcgft $0 http://id.loc.gov/authorities/genreForms/gf2011026250 655 7 $a Feature films. $2 lcgft $0 http://id.loc.gov/authorities/genreForms/gf2011026247 655 7 $a Drama. $2 lcgft $0 http://id.loc.gov/authorities/genreForms/gf2014026297 700 1 $a Brooks, Richard, $d 1912-1992, $e film director. $0 http://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/n87814575 700 1 $a Kaufman, Millard, $e screenwriter. $e screenwriter. $0 http://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/no99057557 700 1 $a Schary, Dore, $e film producer. $0 http://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/n79125728 700 1 $a Widmark, Richard, $e actor. $0 http://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/n85040587 700 1 $a Malden, Karl, $e actor. $0 http://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/no89014727 700 1 $a Stewart, Elaine, $d 1930-2011, $e actor. $0 http://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/n86138599 700 1 $a Tamblyn, Russ, $e actor. $0 http://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/n95007993 700 1 $a Carpenter, Carleton, $d 1926- $e actor. $0 http://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/no90006115 700 1 $a Courtland, Jerome, $d 1926- $e actor. $0 http://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/no93035732 700 1 $a Forrest, Steve, $d 1925-2013, $e actor. $0 http://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/no97077125 700 1 $a Arthur, Robert, $d 1925-2008, $e actor. $0 http://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/no93037743 710 2 $a Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, $e production company. $0 http://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/n80015727 710 2 $a Turner Entertainment Co., $e publisher. $0 http://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/n88034562 710 2 $a Warner Home Video (Firm), $e distributor. $0 http://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/no95005960 830 0 $a Archive collection. $0 http://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/no2009120822 941 $a 1 945 $a dvv 952 $l OVUX522 $d 20231017013527.0 956 $a http://locator.silo.lib.ia.us/search.cgi?index_0=id&term_0=C724AE8E033A11E8972C924897128E48Initiate Another SILO Locator Search
