Summary:
The badly-burned corpse of a young woman is found in a wrecked car on a beach. An autopsy reveals she was murdered, possibly raped. A retired police detective talks his way into investigating the case, and assesses the few clues: a few grains of rice, a tiny slab of paper, and the yellow pajamas the girl was wearing when she was killed.
