Then he gets an anguished letter from this brother Vuyo, informing him that he finally discovered he was adopted at birth. Vuyo is in crisis and is convinced that Sipho knows the truth about his biological parents. Sipho returns to Cape Town to help his brother. Sipho was covertly circumcised in the Robben Island prison but failed to perform the full ceremony so he decides to do so now. Meanwhile, Vuyo announces that he is gay which throws the family into confusion. On the eve of the circumcision ceremony, he attempts suicide. This 'acting out' effectively deflects attention from Sipho's ceremony. The film explores a family and a country trying to embrace both modernity and tradition. While Sipho struggles to help his brother accept his roots, his brother desperately wants to escape them. This extraordinary film is made even more complex by the fact that it is filmed by Sipho's wife who happens to be a white woman, both outsider and insider in this tight-knit family drama"--Container. 600 10 $a Singiswa, Sipho. 650 0 $a Xhosa (African people) $x Rites and ceremonies. 650 0 $a Circumcision $z South Africa $x Religious aspects. 650 0 $a Brothers $z South Africa. 650 0 $a Political prisoners $z South Africa. 650 0 $a Ex-convicts $z South Africa. 650 0 $a Gay men, Black $z South Africa. 650 0 $a Families $z South Africa. 651 0 $a South Africa $x Social conditions $y 1994- 655 7 $a Documentary television programs. $2 lcgft 655 7 $a Nonfiction television programs. $2 lcgft 655 7 $a Television programs $z South Africa. $2 local 700 1 $a Singiswa, Sipho. $4 pro $4 pro 700 1 $a SchuÌtte, Gillian. $4 pro $4 pro 700 1 $a Singiswa, Vuyo. 710 2 $a Hand Held Films. 710 2 $a SABC 1 (Television station : Johannesburg, South Africa) 710 2 $a California Newsreel (Firm) 740 0 $a Project 10, real stories from a free South Africa. 830 0 $a Real stories from a free South Africa ; $v v. 4. 941 $a 1 945 $a dvv 952 $l OVUX522 $d 20171228011832.0 956 $a http://locator.silo.lib.ia.us/search.cgi?index_0=id&term_0=8F124B7E152711E3AA706A77DAD10320Initiate Another SILO Locator Search
