Recognition of the breadth of the "autism spectrum," revelations from research into autism's genetic origins, and most important, new understandings of the needs and capabilities of the autistic have, together, opened up many new doors, new jobs, new joys. The stories of the autistic and their families often remain steeped in challenges, but recent knowledge and successes make the future increasingly hopeful.
