Summary:
"Restorative justice is a creative approach to conflict that brings victims, offenders and the community together to try to arrive at a resolution that is just for all. Restorative justice provides victims with an opportunity to receive acknowledgement of the harm they have suffered and to express what they need in order to heal. It encourages offenders to take responsibility for their actions. It provides community members the opportunity to become actively involved in the process of resolving conflict. The video explores how restorative justice projects can build relationships in communities and increase their capacity to address conflict, including crimes of violence, in a manner that is respectful of each person's dignity. The Law Commission gathered together a wide range of individuals with different views on restorative justice to reflect on the following issues: How can law inspire people to build communities founded on principles of justice? ; What are some different ways of thinking about community? ; Why is conflict a community development issue? ; Can restorative justice programs help strengthen community relationships? ; How does restorative justice address the needs of victims and hold offenders accountable for their actions?"--Container.
