Summary:
A grocer at the Abasto Market falls in love with shopkeeper Paulina, but never reveals his love. Paulina marries a gambler only to be abandoned after her first child is born. The ailing grocer offers to marry Paulina, so that she will inherit his money after his imminent death from illness. The grocer, however, survives his illness, and the two decide to stay together, only to have Paulina's first husband show up intent on resuming their old relationship.
