Summary:
Set against the backdrop of the Spanish Civil War and its aftermath, this film tells the story of three young friends. Two boys (Ramallo and Manuel) and a girl in the Spanish Civil War are involved in a murder-suicide based on vengeance. The terrible event haunts them into adulthood where they all coincidentally meet again in a seaside hospital for tuberculosis treatment. They all now have serious emotional problems: Ramallo is a rent-boy and thief, Manuel is gaunt and obsessed by religion and their girl friend, now Sister Francisca, is now a nun helping the people in the hospital. For each of them, the sea is their refuge.
