Summary:
Phase II Air toxics emissions inventory compiled emission data from 64 facilities within the state. One hundred and six chemicals or chemical compounds were evaluated. Of these, 18 carcinogenic substances were reported, including methyl ethyl ketone, toluene, xylene, 1,1,1 trichloroethane, ammonia, and acetic acid. Williams Pipeline Co. (Des Moines) and Monsanto (Muscatine) were found to have the highest carcinogenic emission potential, while NER Data Products (Des Moines) and Terra Chemical (Sergeant Bluff) the highest noncarcinogenic potential for sources evaluated. Quantum (USI Division, Clinton) had the highest local carcinogenic potential.
