Arab Bank, PLC, this study argues that American courtrooms are being used by rhetors to tell Anglo-American stories about Hamas, the causes of the Second Intifada, and the importance of 'drying up' terrorist financing. While legislation like the 1990 Anti-Terrorism Act appears to be formalistic and neutral in the way that it references the importance of cutting down on the financing of terrorism, the author argues that American courts have often interpreted this in one-sided ways that target 'Arab' banks or 'Palestinian' terrorism. This critique posits that ostensibly objective and apolitical judicial cases on terrorism are in fact serving the ideological purpose of justifying both the Israeli and American vilification of controversial organizations like Hamas. Moreover, by labeling institutions like the Arab Bank abettors of terrorism, American judges and juries hurt Middle Eastern charities and hurt the cause of moderates in the region"--Back cover. 610 20 $a Bank al-Ê»ArabiÌ $x Trials, litigation, etc. 650 0 $a Terrorism $x Law and legislation $z United States. 650 0 $a Terrorism $x Finance. $0 http://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh2005005208 650 0 $a Al-Aqsa Intifada, 2000- $0 http://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh00001754 610 20 $a HÌ£arakat al-MuqaÌwamah al-IslaÌmiÌyah. $0 http://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/n88280213 650 0 $a Banks and banking $x Islam. $x Islam. $0 http://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh88004780 610 27 $a Bank al-Ê»ArabiÌ. $2 fast $0 (OCoLC)fst00517100 610 27 $a HÌ£arakat al-MuqaÌwamah al-IslaÌmiÌyah. $2 fast $0 (OCoLC)fst00654141 611 27 $a Al-Aqsa Intifada (2000- ) $2 fast $0 (OCoLC)fst00804015 650 7 $a Political participation. $2 fast $0 (OCoLC)fst01069386 650 7 $a Terrorism $x Finance. $2 fast $0 (OCoLC)fst01148106 650 7 $a Terrorism $x Government policy. $2 fast $0 (OCoLC)fst01148109 651 7 $a United States. $2 fast $0 (OCoLC)fst01204155 655 7 $a Case studies. $2 fast $0 http://id.worldcat.org/fast/1423765 $0 http://id.worldcat.org/fast/1423765 655 7 $a Trials, litigation, etc. $2 fast $0 http://id.worldcat.org/fast/1423712 $0 http://id.worldcat.org/fast/1423712 830 0 $a Palgrave pivot. $0 http://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/no2012160523 941 $a 1 952 $l OVUX522 $d 20231219012731.0 956 $a http://locator.silo.lib.ia.us/search.cgi?index_0=id&term_0=AA414910ED2F11E78644BA0B97128E48Initiate Another SILO Locator Search
