He is named for his most famous work, a triptych depicting the death and resurrection of Christ, from an altar in a church in Trebon, a medieval town in the southern Czech Republic. Today, the masterpiece is in the collection of the National Gallery in Prague. Because little is known about this artist, scholars have ascribed to the Master various pieces of art, speculating about their dates of origin, their chronology, and their artistic and ideological points of departure. Art historian Jan Royt's extensive scientific research into the Master of the Trebon Altarpiece attempts to definitively identify and contextualize this unknown artist's oeuvre. Royt begins by outlining historical events in Bohemia during the last third of the fourteenth century, including the development of painting and religious atmosphere of the time. He then offers an artistic and iconographic analysis of works of the Master of the Trebon Altarpiece and his workshop and circle. The book closes with a detailed critical overview of art historians' views of the work of this medieval artist. With more than eighty color reproductions and illustrations depicting the results of a restoration survey of the panel paintings by the Master of the Trebon Altarpiece. 505 0 $a Machine generated contents note: Western and Central European painting 1375 -- 1400 -- Sources and starting points of Bohemian panel painting 1340 -- 1380 -- The religious background of the Master of the Trebon Altarpiece's work -- The Master of the Trebon Altarpiece -- The Trebon Altarpiece -- On the reconstruction of the Trebon altarpiece -- Works of the Master of the Trebon Altarpiece and his workshop -- The chronology of the works of the Master of the Trebon Altarpiece and his workshop -- The Master of the Trebon Altarpiece and the Beautiful Style -- Works influenced by the Master of the Trebon Altarpiece's work -- The Master of the Trebon Altarpiece as seen by art historians. 500 $a New Book -- June -- 2016 600 00 $a Master of the TrÌebonÌ Altarpiece, $d active 1380-1390. 650 0 $a Painting, Czech $z TrÌebonÌ $z TrÌebonÌ $y 14th century. 650 0 $a Altarpieces, Czech $z TrÌebonÌ $z TrÌebonÌ $y 14th century. 650 0 $a Church decoration and ornament $z TrÌebonÌ $z TrÌebonÌ $y 14th century. 650 0 $a Art, High Gothic $z TrÌebonÌ. $z TrÌebonÌ. 600 07 $a Master of the TrÌebonÌ Altarpiece $d (active 1380-1390). $2 000 700 1 $a Morgan, Daniel $c (Translator), $e translator. 700 1 $a Horova, Mirka, $e translator. 700 1 $a PokornyÌ, Adam, $e writer of supplementary textual content. 700 1 $a PeroutkovaÌ, Jana, $e illustrator. 941 $a 2 952 $l USUX851 $d 20160826113449.0 952 $l PNAX964 $d 20160701020414.0 956 $a http://locator.silo.lib.ia.us/search.cgi?index_0=id&term_0=8EEB4B803F5111E6B107C4BEDAD10320 994 $a C0 $b IX2Initiate Another SILO Locator Search
