Summary:
Potomok Chingis-Kana [Storm over Asia] is the story of Mongol descendents who are being exploited by foreign interests during the revolution. Desertir [Deserter] centers on a young man's choices made during worker unrest at a German shipyard where the oppression comes from both owners and union bosses. Turksib is a feature length documentary that depicts the construction of the Trans-Siberian railroad and its effects on isolated peoples in Soviet Central Asia and the Far East. Dzhim s︠t︡vante [Salt for Svanetia] is a documentary about a road being built into the isolated Caucasian region of Svanetia, where the Ushkul tribe has lived for generations in a stone age culture and where basic items like salt mean the difference between life and death Po zakonu [By the law] is the story of a group of prospectors in the Yukon who encounter harsh conditions and murder. Arsenal, based on an actual incident, concerns a group of Ukrainian Bolsheviks who battle against overwhelming counter-revolutionary national forces in an Alamo like defense of a munitions plant.. Bezhin meadow [Bezhin lug] is the tale of peasant settlements being forcibly reorganized into state affliated collective farms and how it affects a father and a son.
