Summary:
At the moment of his betrothal, the sailor Edmond Dantès is arrested and thrown into prison after being denounced by his rival for the hand of the beautiful Mercédès, Fernand Mondego. He follows the advice of his friend in captivity, escapes from the prison and discovers the treasure of the isle of Monte Cristo. Assuming the title of Count of Monte Cristo he proceeds with his plan of revenge.
