Summary:
Based on actual events durind World War II, this is the story of a rural Polish working family whose relative calm is shattered by orders for all Jews to report to the occupying Germans. In an act of desperation, they defy the orders and opt to hide instead and spend the next two years in a series of crude underground hiding places, always menaced by German soldiers, Polish collaborators, and illness.
