In the early 1980s, La Ciotat, a former shipyard, was in crisis. A handful of thirty-year-olds started looking for an idea to revive local cultural life. A project to create a film festival in the city made famous by the Lumière brothers eventually won and they received the support of Georges Giordana, manager of Eden Theatre, one of the cinemas of La Ciotat.
