The three-book series to which I committed are coming in for a landing. One copy of Bearded Vulture is bound, so therefore, I can finally share it. I wrote some of the text for it first, and I knew the form it would take, but Quail and Raven jostled for my attention first and second. Seager/Gray Gallery in Mill Valley will be showing all three books in October, along with Letters of Transit: Bird Passports, and The Third Light, and a few other works in Gallery 3, for a small solo show: Birds of the Book. I'm working on a catalogue for it. More on that later."--Artist's website.
Summary:
Accordion folded artist's book with single signature of [4] pages attached to upper board; [2] centerfold panels feature a reduction linocut of a group of quails printed in yellow, grey, brown, and white and surrounded by hand-stiched border in brown thread. The righthand section attached to lower board is an accordion-folded tunnel featuring three quail cut-outs (two male, one female) printed in various shades of brown, grey, and white; includes two passages written by Alisa Golden about quails flying, printed in brown and light blue ink. Includes a passage from Numbers 11:31 in English and Hebrew; Hebrew word "selav"; front signature has artist's fictional interpretation of the Bible story. Quail illustrations are based on California quail, similar to the migratory quail mentioned in the Bible.
