Summary:
After their mother's arrest for forcing her young daughter into prostitution, Rosetta and Luciano are not admitted to a religious home near Milan. They must be escorted by an officer to a special institution for troubled children in Sicily. The journey allows the children and their escort to develop strong bonds of friendship and solidarity. But reality shatters to most innocent of hopes: both adults and children learn that freedom is a dream and destiny often unmerciful.
