The Herlihy's are a white, middle class, Catholic family in Chicago. The Taylor's are the family of a black preacher in Mississippi. The eldest Herlihy son (O'Connell) enlists in the Marines on graduation from high school, is sent to Vietnam, and returns as a disillusioned head case. His younger brother (Hamilton), becomes a freedom rider and later, in college, an anti-war activist. Their sister (Stiles), winds up pregnant and unmarried on the streets of Haight Asbury. The black family, active in civil rights protests in the South, moves to Los Angeles where the father (Dutton) is killed during the Watts riots. His son Emmet (Roberts), eventually becomes a bodyguard for Black Panther leader Fred Hampton (Grier). In the end, everyone who survives finds a modicum of happiness. The Herlihy children are reunited at Woodstock and reconcile with their parents who accept their children for what they have become. Emmet Taylor returns to Watts to organize a breakfast program for needy children. 650 0 $a Television programs. $0 http://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh85133602 650 0 $a Nineteen sixties $v Drama. 650 0 $a Irish Americans $z Chicago $z Chicago $v Drama. 650 0 $a African Americans $z Mississippi $v Drama. 650 0 $a African Americans $z Los Angeles $z Los Angeles $v Drama. 650 0 $a Civil rights movements $z United States $v Drama. 650 0 $a Vietnam War, 1961-1975 $v Drama. $0 http://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh2010117841 650 0 $a Vietnam War, 1961-1975 $x Protest movements $z United States $v Drama. 650 0 $a Vietnam War, 1961-1975 $x Veterans $v Drama. 650 0 $a Veterans $z United States $v Drama. 650 0 $a College students $z United States $v Drama. 650 0 $a Hippies $z United States $v Drama. 650 0 $a Parent and child $z United States $v Drama. 651 0 $a United States $x History $y 1961-1969 $v Drama. 651 0 $a United States $x Social life and customs $y 1945-1970 $v Drama. 610 20 $a Black Panther Party $v Drama. 655 7 $a Drama. $2 lcgft $0 http://id.loc.gov/authorities/genreForms/gf2014026297 700 1 $a Hamilton, Josh. $0 http://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/no97003180 700 1 $a Stiles, Julia, $d 1981- $0 http://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/no99074348 700 1 $a O'Connell, Jerry, $d 1974- $0 http://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/no97006874 700 1 $a Sisto, Jeremy, $d 1974- $0 http://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/no00064244 700 1 $a Brewster, Jordana, $d 1980- $0 http://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/no00010828 700 1 $a Roberts, Leonard $c (Actor) 700 1 $a Smitrovich, Bill. $0 http://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/no97047396 700 1 $a Corley, Annie. $0 http://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/no98115875 700 1 $a Grier, David Alan, $d 1955- 700 1 $a Dutton, Charles S. $0 http://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/n88224919 700 1 $a Piznarski, Mark. $0 http://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/no99031782 700 1 $a CoutourieÌ, Bill. 700 1 $a Greenfield, Robert. $0 http://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/n82094676 700 1 $a Fishkin, Jeffrey Alan. 710 2 $a Lynda Obst Productions. $0 http://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/no2016157327 710 2 $a NBC Television Network. $0 http://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/n81112494 710 2 $a NBC Home Video (Firm) $0 http://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/no2004001214 710 2 $a Trimark Home Video (Firm) $0 http://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/no98115905 941 $a 2 945 $a dvv 952 $l GYPE631 $d 20240626012448.0 952 $l OVUX522 $d 20180116040453.0 956 $a http://locator.silo.lib.ia.us/search.cgi?index_0=id&term_0=5A0568DAF83511E784964A6B97128E48Initiate Another SILO Locator Search
