Both were born in Massachusetts, but in different towns, 11 years apart. Charity's attachment to women was so blatant that after she turned 20, her father told her to leave the house. She worked as a schoolteacher, but was forced to leave jobs several times because of hurtful gossip about her relationships with other women. In early 1807, Charity moved to Vermont to stay with a friend, and there she met Sylvia. The two fell in love, set up housekeeping, and considered themselves married. Gradually, their family members and the residents of Weybridge did as well. Charity and Sylvia became integral to the community, attending church, running their tailor shop, and contributing to charitable endeavors. Most of all, Charity and Sylvia remained passionately committed to each other and refused to hide their relationship. An important work of history that resonates with one of today's most public debates. 600 10 $a Bryant, Charity. 600 10 $a Drake, Sylvia, $d 1784-1868. 650 0 $a Same-sex marriage $z United States $y To 1865. 600 17 $a Bryant, Charity. $2 fast $0 (OCoLC)fst01512773 600 17 $a Drake, Sylvia, $d 1784-1868. $2 fast $0 (OCoLC)fst01924899 650 7 $a Same-sex marriage. $2 fast $0 (OCoLC)fst01104555 651 7 $a United States. $2 fast $0 (OCoLC)fst01204155 600 17 $a Bryant, Charity $d 1777-1851 $2 gnd 600 17 $a Drake, Sylvia $d 1784-1868 $2 gnd 610 27 $a UmschulungswerkstaÌtten fuÌr Siedler und Auswanderer $g Bitterfeld $2 gnd 650 7 $a Gleichgeschlechtliche Ehe $2 gnd 648 7 $a To 1865 $2 fast 941 $a 1 952 $l SAPG074 $d 20210109010454.0 956 $a http://locator.silo.lib.ia.us/search.cgi?index_0=id&term_0=56F39A98524811EB9908E9352EECA4DB 994 $a Z0 $b LJWInitiate Another SILO Locator Search
