Summary:
"In this book I explore the early history of Norwegian settlement in central Iowa. In June 1855, Norwegian immigrants began settling in southern Story County and northern Polk County, and the following year they founded a second settlement in northern Story County which expanded into southern Hamilton County and southwestern Hardin County. The histories in this book describing the settlements up through 1880 can serve as a resource for family historians and others interested in local history to deepen their understanding of a region that became the third largest Norwegian settlement area in Iowa."--Preface.
