Summary:
The contents of this report document the study efforts undertaken towards the purpose of improving traffic safety and reducing accidents on the city streets of Shenandoah. In Part II the scope of the study is defined. The basic methodology is outlined, and the work tasks to which that procedure was applied are described. The extent of the involvement of the community in the study is also summarized. Part III contains a review and informal inventory of existing traffic conditions and traffic control devices currently in use on the City's street system as well as an overview of the available accident history. In Part IV, the various elements of the existing system of traffic controls are analyzed for suitability, conformance, completeness, and uniformity. Where deficiencies or other conditions were noted, appropriate improvements and modifications were developed and are supplemented by sketches for clarity. Part V of the report provides a summary of the various recommendations developed in Part IV, including a priority listing, an estimate of improvement costs, and a discussion of various sources of funding for the implementation of the recommended improvements. The Appendix contains material supplemental to the report, including accident collision diagrams and traffic flow diagrams.
