Hannah and Tadeusz Piekarz are reunited after the war in Communist Poland and have two sons, Jasiu, a devout Christian, and Piotr, involved in the workers underground. When the daughter of American spy, Jacek Duch, who has become part of the communist government, meets the Piekarz family she falls in love with both of the sons and must make a choice.
