The oral histories, prophecies, and traditions of the Mandans are presented by an authentic waxikena, or Turtle Priest. Each chapter focuses on one specific aspect of Mandan life; the fast, sweat lodge, sun dance, and Okipa ceremony are discussed thoroughly. Cedric also offers the open and honest (and even humorous) account of his own personal spiritual journey, coming to terms with his birth right as a Manda waxikena.
