Moslund explores "sensuous geographies" (something that has so far been neglected in the study of place in literature) as opening up other than discursive relations to the world - other, non-territorial modes of being-in-the-world. The book develops a sense-aesthetic mode of reading (a "topo-poetics") and in close-readings of Conrad, Blixen, Coetzee and Achebe (among others), Moslund explores dimensions in literature that open up the place world as produced by desubjectified intensities of smell, sound, sight, touch, etc. Sense-aesthetic qualities of literary language are shown in this way as radically challenging the rationalizing logic of modernity (the inner logic of imperialism), at the heart of which Moslund identifies a disciplining of the senses and a reduction of the sensuous openness of reality. With his study of sensuous geographies in literature, Moslund makes a notable shift in the field of postcolonial studies and geocriticism from discourse analysis to aesthetic analysis"-- $c Provided by publisher. 650 0 $a Geography and literature. $0 http://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh2010014467 650 0 $a Postcolonialism in literature. $0 http://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh2002010213 650 0 $a Geocriticism. $0 http://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh2010014468 650 0 $a Place (Philosophy) in literature. $0 http://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh99005189 650 0 $a Senses and sensation in literature. $0 http://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh85120052 650 7 $a LITERARY CRITICISM / General. $2 bisacsh 650 7 $a LITERARY CRITICISM / European / English, Irish, Scottish, Welsh. $2 bisacsh 650 7 $a LITERARY CRITICISM / Semiotics & Theory. $2 bisacsh 650 7 $a Geocriticism. $2 fast $0 (OCoLC)fst01763930 650 7 $a Geography and literature. $2 fast $0 (OCoLC)fst01763929 650 7 $a Place (Philosophy) in literature. $2 fast $0 (OCoLC)fst01064981 650 7 $a Postcolonialism in literature. $2 fast $0 (OCoLC)fst01073035 650 7 $a Senses and sensation in literature. $2 fast $0 (OCoLC)fst01112595 830 0 $a Geocriticism and spatial literary studies. $0 http://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/no2015056733 941 $a 1 952 $l OVUX522 $d 20231021015251.0 956 $a http://locator.silo.lib.ia.us/search.cgi?index_0=id&term_0=3C6218B8F50C11E7A6193F6E97128E48Initiate Another SILO Locator Search
