Eamines the life and work of Jean Eustache (The Mother and the whore), the influential but little-known French filmmaker whose career paralleled, but remained distinct from, “La Nouvelle Vague.” His films had a substantial impact on an entire generation of French filmmakers, and to this day provide a source of inspiration for cinéastes. Featuring sequences from his films, both documentary and fiction, as well as interviews with collaborators and friends, this documentary uses for its narration Eustache’s own words, recorded by Jean-Pierre Léaud, Françoise Lebrun, José Peña, Jean-Michel Barjol, Henri Martinez.
