Summary:
Eleven-year-old Ira befriends Oscar, a young Mexican she meets when her father hires migrant workers to help in his beet fields. Their friendship is tested by local prejudice and hostility against the migrants, teaching Ira to be a true friend and to stand up for her beliefs. Includes four questions for family discussion.
